French

Intent:

At the Rodillian Academy we believe that all students should get the opportunity to study French at KS3 and KS4 in order to develop and practice their knowledge in the language, based on a highly engaging and culturally enriching curriculum.

The curriculum plan for KS3 follows the national curriculum plan for Languages.

At KS4 students study the AQA GCSE for French course.

Our aim is to broaden students’ horizons, to encourage them to step beyond familiar cultural boundaries and develop new ways of seeing the world through studying a Modern Foreign language.

Our students should develop a competency that is both broad and deep in the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing based on a sound foundation of core grammar, vocabulary and phonics.

Our curriculum aims at providing our students with opportunities to understand and communicate for practical purposes, personal and factual information as well as develop and justify opinions in speech and writing with increased independence, spontaneity and accuracy.

Students will also gain more experience in learning new ways of thinking and in developing an appreciation of a range of writing in French and will also study the French speaking world.

Critical learning, high frequency language and key communicative functions will be revisited receptively and productively many times as we progress through the curriculum.
