Celebrations for Rodillian’s Year 11 sporting stars

A special celebration event was held on Friday 2 June 2023 to celebrate Rodillian Academy’s Year 11 sporting achievements during their time at the Academy.

Netball, rugby and dance students were invited to attend the assembly where they enjoyed lunch and presentations from staff, who shared their amazing achievements over the last five years.

The one-hour celebration event also saw students and their parents surprise Head of Rugby, Mr Graham. Parents joined students to give their thanks to Mr Graham for his support when leading the Rodillian Rugby Academy. Speeches and thank you gifts were given, and it was also revealed that three students have received rugby scholarships to prestigious schools including Sedbergh School and Woodhouse Grove.

Lorraine Bradley, Principal at the Rodillian Academy, said: “We are exceptionally proud of our Year 11 students, many who joined sport teams in Year 7 and continued being part of these teams throughout their time at the Academy.

“From Year 7, our current Year 11 netball team have either won or achieved second place in their league each year, finishing by winning the under 16’s league this year.

“Our dance team have triumphed over 135 other dance groups in the last two years as part of the Yorkshire Dance FRESH competition. They are also current Key Stage 4/5 Champions for the North Region in the Great Big Dance Off; a national school's dance competition, and will be attending the finale on 26 June 2023 in Cheltenham.

“Our rugby team have won regional and national competitions, beginning with the Tait Cup in Year 7, and finishing with the team winning the Yorkshire Cup two years in a row in Year 10 and Year 11.

“Over the last five years our students have shown resilience, commitment and determination, honed their skills and have gone from strength to strength in their abilities. It has been fantastic to watch, and we are excited to see where these qualities take them in the next step of their life.

“I would also like to give a great thank you to staff who have inspired and supported students, dedicating their time to coach teams and help lead them to success; the impact you have made is incredible and this is recognised by students, colleagues and parents.”
