Year 10 Rugby Sevens Success!
The Year 10 rugby sevens squad travelled to the Ilkley 7’s Festival on the 27th March in high hopes after a good season against many of the opponents they expected to face at the Festival. After a very tough game against a strong side from Harrogate Grammar School, the year 10 squad then dispatched the Ilkley B team and Prince Henrys Grammar School. The boys played some superb sevens rugby, moving the ball with pace and accuracy forcing the defence to work hard. The boys then faced St John Fisher Academy in the Semi Finals who had impressed in the pool stages. The Rodillian squad coped with the pace of the John Fisher outfit well and due to the defensive pressure the Rodillian team applied, profited from numerous lost balls to score several length of the field tries. After a quick turn around, the Rodillian outfit began strongly against the home side, Ilkley Grammar School in the Final of the Festival. After scoring two quick tries, Ilkley showed some class after scoring a well worked try to bring the scores close. Just before half time, Rodillian scored again to start to move away from the powerful Ilkley side. Ilkley started the second half well, scoring first. But with flowing attacking moves, off -loading and some powerful carries, the Rodillian side worked their way quickly into the game, scoring two quick tries in succession. Ilkley scored on the final whistle to bring the final score to 25 -17. A really impressive victory for the Rodillian team. Well done lads.
