The Rodillian Rugby Sevens Squad Look to Build Upon an Amazing Experience as They Look to Future Success
The lads arrived at Rosslyn Park with enthusiasm and energy. Getting off the bus they were confronted with what can only be described as winter wonderland. But as always the lads showed their resilience and prepared for the first fixture against Royal hospital a tough opening game. Rodillian showed off their skills and dispatched Royal 2 tries to 1 after a ropey start and a try saving tackle by Ben Littlewood. The second game saw them cup agains a strong Whitgift school famous for having a zoo on its grounds. The lads showed them too much respect in the beginning losing the collisions and allowing Whitgift to open up a 3-0 lead going into half time. After the half the boys responded positively and managed to score two superb tries of our own. The lads effort continued but as we were chasing the game this led to two additional mistakes leading to tries for Whitgift who eventually win 5-2. The third game saw them come up against Judd who could not break down a solid well organised Rodillian defence. Rodillian eventually came out on top 2-1. The fourth game saw the boys facing a strong Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The game finished 3-3, however this game showcased the sevens talent these boys have playing some excellent rugby with the best try of the day finished by Alfie Longstaff after some great build up play. The final game saw Rodillian come unstuck against Dubai English School who had some strong strike runners, losing 8-2. Although the day ended in a bit of a negative it had to be said that every man contributed effectively through out the day making it an extremely positive experience for all investors involved. Furthermore the parental support through out the day was excellent providing the lads with that much needed boost.
The day ended with a trip around london to see some of the sites like Big Ben and Westminster abbey. Again the lads seem to take a keen interest in this or maybe it was the mounds of pizza they were excited for. Overall an excellent tour with the boys thoroughly enjoying themselves.
