Rodillian Year 7 Rugby Squad take Tournament by storm!!!!

The Rodillian Academy Year 7 rugby squad travelled to Barnard Castle School on Sunday 24th September to take part in the prestigious Tait 10’s Rugby Festival. This was the boys first opportunity to play together and for many of the boys with only a rugby league background, their first taste of rugby union within such a high profile environment. The boys defeated Yarm school in their opening game but a tougher test awaited the boys in the next round. Caldicott Prep School have a strong pedigree in junior rugby, regularly reaching the final stages of the National 7’s tournament and Prep school tournaments. Rodillian started the game well, with an early score from Alfie Longstaff. However, Caldicott showed their experience and greater understanding of rugby union as they began to dominate the ruck, resulting in fast ball or turnover ball. Caldicott eventually won the game 4 tries to 3. The boys then defeated Barnard Castle in their final pool game.

In the 2nd place pool, Rodillian then defeated a strong team from Newcastle School for Boys followed by a tough fixture against Sedbergh School. Rodillian winning the Tait 10’s Plate.

Rodillian were the only team to push eventual winners Caldicott Prep close and should be proud of their performance. This bodes well for the season ahead. The coaching staff wish to thank all of the members of staff and the parents who travelled to Barnard Castle to support the rugby team.
