France Trip 2015
This year’s France trip saw 120 students attend the Rouviere Les Pins campsite, located just outside the village of Vagnas. At the start of Year 7 all students attended a 3 day camp at Bradley Woods near Halifax as they began their resilience course at school. The France trip was an opportunity to test their resilience and prepare them for the applied resilience course they would follow in Year 8. The Rouviere Les Pins is a family run campsite with over 100 plots in varying size. The campsite was also reasonably quiet due our arrival being out of their peak period.
Vagnas is situated just 5km from the town of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc in the Ardeche region of the south of France, home to the Ardeche gorge and the famous Pont d’Arc.
Rodillian occupied two large pitches side by side, with student and staff tents around the outside. We also had a large marquee for cooking, eating and entertainment. The camp site had various features including a swimming pool, pool table, table football, football pitch and basketball/volleyball areas.
Each trip lasted one week with six trips in total. Each week the children took part in the following adventures and activities:
Kayaking down the Ardeche gorge and under the Pont d’Arc. Students would ride all the rapids on the route and build slides with their kayaks at various stops on the journey. There were lots of opportunities to get in the water and enjoy the small beaches and caves.
Two cycling trips were offered, one to a small natural pool and waterfall where students could swim and the other to the nearby historic town of Barjac.
Students also visited Europe’s largest high ropes course called Indy Parc. There were loads of challenges and zip ropes for different levels of ability. The final challenge included a 250m zip slide.
A visit to a large water park that had numerous slides, pools and restaurants was enjoyed by staff and students each week! You can use single or double rings on most of the slides and there’s even one that can fit 8 people in at a time. We had hours of fun at the water park every week!
On an evening the children also had a visit to the towns of Vallon and Barjac where they had the opportunity to visit the local shops. We also ran a programme of activities including sports, games and time in the pool which students enjoyed immensely. Staff vs Students rounders seemed to be a popular favourite!!!
Students and staff had an excellent time and the location was stunning and offered so many brilliant opportunities for our students.
