West Yorkshire Games
Rodillian Academy Cycle teams successfully qualified with two teams for the County finals in the West Yorkshire School Games. The event was held at the Headingly campus of Leeds University on the 8th July 2014. Six schools from West Yorkshire qualified including High Schools from Leeds Rodillian, Tong, Brighouse, Colne Valley, Priesthorpe and Minsthorpe , a total of 17 teams of four competitors from years 7,8 or 9.
The racing, which involved a team time trial, a relay race, a mass start final and individual solo races, saw some very tired legs and very close racing. Points were accrued for each competitor’s efforts. In the end Colne valley were declared the outright winners with Rodillian ‘A’ team and Carr Manor ‘A’ team unbelievably dead level on points for joint second. Carr Manor were pronounced second place winners because they had more competitors finishing ahead of Rodillian in the team events.
Rodillian ‘A’ team – 3rd place and ‘B’ team – 13th .Not a bad result when you consider there are over 200 Secondary schools in West Yorkshire!
The final races of the day involved qualifying heats for the grand final and then the final. Reece Thirlwell put in a tremendous effort to narrowly miss out on the 3rd place winners podium finishing in 4th. Lisa Head battled some very stiff and determined opposition to claim a 7th in the girls final.
Well done to all the team you should be very proud of yourselves!
