Rosslyn Park National 7’s Festival
The Year 8 team travelled down to London to play in the prestigious Rosslyn Park National 7’s Rugby Festival. This is the biggest festival in the world with over 450 teams competing across 5 age group tournaments. We have recently introduced 7’s rugby to the boys and they have taken to it extremely well.
After playing Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield in a friendly fixture, the boys travelled down to the tournament with high expectations. After victory against Cranmore School and Lords Wandsworth College, we faced a strong outfit from Aldro School. The score swung both ways until Rodillian took the lead after another superb try from the electric Will Sheen with one minute to go.
However, following a deep kick off and mounting pressure, the Rodillian team had the opportunity to finish the game with a blitz defence. However, Aldro School managed to work the ball around the defensive blitz and ran the length of the pitch to win the game with the final play. The boys and travelling supporters were devastated but can take heart with their performances and progression after only two months of 7’s rugby.
The boys played superbly well and enjoyed the experience of travelling down to London and taking part in such a huge tournament.
