Condover Hall Netball Tour
The Year 8 Netball Academy squad headed off on an adventure weekend to Condover Hall to reward them for their commitment to the sports programme and also to challenge pupils to compete against other schools/club from across the nation.
On the Saturday, the A and B team both competed within separate groups to decide if they would compete for the cup or the plate. Amazingly both teams managed to succeed against some tough competitors and qualified for the cup. The A team managed to win 4 out of 5 of their games and the B team achieved 5 wins out of their 5 matches, finishing 1st within their division. In very hot conditions, both teams managed to stay composed regardless of the uncomfortable weather conditions, resulting in a brilliant set of results from day 1.
Ironically, due to both teams success it meant that they would face each other in the next round. However, none of us predicted that it would be the first game of the Sunday fixtures! This was a tough game which looked like either team could have been victorious. However, in the second half, Rodillian A managed to pull away and claim the points. Rodillian A had another successful string of results and won 3 out of the 4 games they played, narrowly missing out on the final due to losing to the team who went on to win the whole competition. With such a narrow loss the girls were understandably upset but dealt with the situation with great sportsmanship, even going over to congratulate the winning team after the final.
When the pupils were not competing within the netball tournament, there was a wide array of activities for pupils to participate in, from high ropes to laser quest!
The year 8 Academy throughout the trip were an asset to the school, displaying talent, politeness, sportsmanship and resilience whilst battling some challenging weather conditions and some very talented oppositions. Although all pupils were outstanding, a special mention has to be given to Erin Lamport, Eva Finnigan and Mya Watson who were awarded with ‘players of the tournament’.
